Yin and Yang are the two primal energies of the universe. In the context of Yoga, all forms of yoga can be described as yin or yang depending on what tissues of the body they target. Rhythmic movement, muscle contraction and moving blood is considered yang (ashtanga, vinyasa), while exercises that create a gentle traction of the connective tissue is yin. Yin and Yang are teachers of balance. In a Yin Yoga class, one can expect a practice that focuses on gently stretching connective tissue by holding poses for extended periods of time. This practice also encourages meditation because during the extended hold times, one is challenged to remain present and strengthen sensitivity to the flow of energy in and around the body.Reiki (ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing. “Rei” means universal or God-Consciousness, and “Ki” means life energy, the same as Chi in Chinese, or Prana in Sanskrit. Therefore, Reiki translates as spiritually guided life energy. Receiving Reiki is a very relaxing, meditative experience.
Join Jessica for a yin style yoga class and then enjoy an extended savasana while receiving a guided Reiki experience. All levels welcome! $35 for the workshop.
