The Northborough Turkey Trot began nine years ago in the driveway of founder, Rita Matraia, where 20 of her closest friends gathered to exercise before getting together with their families to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. In the beginning, Rita asked everyone to bring canned goods that she would later load into the back of her car and bring to the Northborough Food Pantry. As the years went on and the crowds grew, monetary donations replaced the canned goods, and the starting line was moved to the Zeh School.
This past Thanksgiving, while most people were just waking up to a chilly morning, nearly 600 runners and walkers gathered outside of the Zeh School to participate in the 5K event to benefit those in need. This past week, the Northborough Turkey Trot Committee presented a check for $15,813 to the Food Pantry. The committee would like to thank the participants, volunteers, t-shirt sponsors, and the 2016 major sponsors of the Northborough Turkey Trot which included Communications Technology Services, LLC (CTS); Karen Scopetski Realtor; The Core Connection and Yoga Loft; Orthomed Massage Clinic; Island Builders and Flaherty Physical Therapy, who contributed to the success of this event.
